Latest press release from Cllr Lourda Scott, issued on Monday, July 13th 2020…
Green Party Councillor Lourda Scott welcomes the addition of new enforcement measures for littering.
Scott says: “The problem of overflowing bins in the Greystones District has become a very common and unpleasant sight in the area. Seeing bags of litter propped against bins that are packed to the brim is not only unslightly but also unhygienic and bad news for the environment with bits of litter and plastic blown into the sea. Myself and my fellow Councillors raised the issue with our District office but were told that nothing further could be done due to lack of resources.
“I wasn’t happy to accept this as many people were contacting me about this problem. I discussed it with Wicklow County Council Chief Executive, Frank Curran and I was delighted to receive confirmation today that positive action was agreed. He told me that Environmental Enforcement would put extra time and resources into Greystones area and that they would look to secure extra resources for emptying bins for the remainder of the summer. I would like to remind everyone that we all need to work together to tackle the problem of litter in the area.
“Please take your litter home with you where possible and report any incidences of littering to firstname.lastname@example.org or call either the Litterline Lo-Call 1890548837 or PURE Lo-Call 1850365121.”
