t was back in July 2019 that Greystones got its temporary Mobi mats on the South Beach.
And whilst they weren’t a hit with everyone – especially those hoping for wheelchair access right into the waves – they were always intended as a stop-gap until the real boardwalk was built.
And lo, it has come to pass that our firm-buttocked young town engineer Ruairi O’Hanlon has put the building of these wooden walkways out to tender.
“This will give people a much firmer platform, literally, from which to access the beach,” says Cathaoirleach Lourda Scott. “There’s always been a problem of sand accumulation on the mats, along with other trip hazards, so the wooden boardwalks will make a huge difference for many, many people around here.”
With no definite date set for their construction, the fact that Greystones’ new boardwalk empire has gone out to tender is a definite roll in the right direction.
