To be fair, despite the fact that a very beautiful Greystones building is no longer a family home, the artist’s impression of how Mount View is going to look post-op is pretty cool.
Especially that it projects a near-future for the town where someone who drives a kick-ass orange Camaro would still be happy to shop in SuperValu.
Going from being the home of the Egan clan to a retail, office and, no doubt, coffee outlet, the main Mount View building itself will remain. It’s just the dodgy single-storey extension out back that got the chop.
We listed the application by O’Connor Whelan Limited for the changes at Mount View back in July 2016, which you can view here. In September of last year, they made a few changes in a new application.
They are as follows: variations to the previously approved permission (Register Reference 17/421) to provide for a change of use of the existing dwelling from retail approved at ground floor and office at first floor to a restaurant on both levels (totalling 240 sqm) including ancillary kitchen, toilet, storage and staff facilities. The restaurant will provide an ancillary takeaway service, elevational changes include a revised window ope and new window ope on the northern elevation at first floor level, and the blocking up of 2 approved doors on the southern elevation at first floor level (into an approved lobby).
You can also view O’Connor Whelan Limited’s full application here, and their plans for Zoe House – just across the road – right here.
Today, we were in touch with Citybuild, who are handling the Mount View makeover, and young Rory McGuigan there should be sending us over any new information, and illustrations, by Monday. Once the designers cough ’em up.
In the meantime, people get ready for the sudden influx of classic cars around de town. And for the old La Touche shop to be painted white, top to bottom, windows and all.
Jaysus, I reckon the coffee’s going to be darned expensive at that place.
You can take a tour of the old Mount View with Keith Egan here.
