Latest press release from Simon Harris TD, issued on Thursday, March 19th 2020…
Wicklow Minister Simon Harris TD welcomed the massive response from the Irish people to Be on Call for Ireland.
Speaking today, Minister Harris said, “In less than two days, 30,000 people have answered the call of Government to offer their assistance during this time of crisis. Thank you to each and every one of you. We are asking all healthcare professionals from all disciplines who are not already working in the public health service to register to be on call for Ireland.
“We will be creating extra hospital and care beds and will need extra hands to provide the care that’s needed. We need your help to meet the challenge that’s ahead. Maybe you aren’t a healthcare professional, maybe you’re studying to be one, or maybe you have other skills to offer or just want to volunteer to do your bit if needed.
“Hopefully we won’t need to call, and if we do, we may not need every one of you. But knowing you are there if we do will make all the difference. If you would like to offer your help please go to Be on Call for Ireland here. There you will be able to fill out an online form indicating your skill and what assistance you can offer in this moment of national need.
“Thank you to the men, women and children across the county Wicklow who are helping their neighbours, friends, family as we struggle to adjust to this temporary but significant reality. I want to acknowledge the incredible response of staff in our public service across Departments and Agencies – particularly in the health sector but also in social welfare and other sectors.
“These front line staff have stayed in post and gone above and beyond what we could reasonably expect of them.”
