The Write StuffApril 26, 2016
As so often happens with the Department Of Education, the announcement this morning that the patronage for the new Charlesland secondary school is now open came out of the blue.
Still, the bould Jennifer Whitmore has managed to make some sense of it all, and has put together the following links.
The round-up came with the sage advice that parents take their time before choosing the patronage they want to see for this 2020 school that will serve Greystones and Kilcoole.
Here’s the lowdown…
The patronage competition for the new secondary school for Greystones/Kilcoole has opened here.
What does this mean?
Parents and guardians of children who are due to enrol in post-primary school from 2020-2024 in Greystones/Kilcoole are being invited to complete an online survey.
Using this survey express your preference as to which patron you would like to see running the school.
Four patrons have applied to run the new secondary school.
1. An Foras Pátrúnachta is a private charitable company limited by guarantee and the patron of a number of Irish-medium primary and post-primary schools throughout the country. Multi-Denominational Voluntary Secondary School. Runs 5 other secondary schools.
2. Educate Together is a private charitable company limited by guarantee and the patron or representative organisation of a number of primary schools and post-primary schools throughout the country. Multi-Denominational Voluntary Secondary School. Runs 17 other secondary schools.
3. Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (KWETB) is a statutory authority which has responsibility for managing and operating a range of education services including second-level schools and is patron of a number of primary and post-primary schools. Multi-Denominational Community College. Runs 23 other secondary schools.
4. Scoil Sinéad Ltd is a private charitable company limited by guarantee and is a new patron body for one primary school and a trustee partner in the management of one post-primary school. Multi-Denominational Voluntary Secondary School. Runs 1 other secondary school.
This survey will remain open until 4th October. However, I would recommend waiting a little while before you complete the survey, as i know some of the patrons are planning public meetings and information sessions and you may wish to hear about their ethos etc before indicating a preference.
Once a patron is chosen, you will still need to enroll in that school once it has been established – completing the survey only indicates your preference of patron, it does not mean you have enrolled.
Got all that? Now, go do your research. Your kid’s future depends on it. And so does your nursing home.
