It was an idea suggested to us by former restaurant boss John Hartnett, after a heavy latenight thinking session…
Having seen with his own Theatre Lane eaterie just how tough the food industry can be, John knows that many of Greystones’ fine restaurants and cafes will be hurting right now.
With the whole country in lockdown as the world attempts to stop the spread of Covid-19, what should be the beginning of the busy season for our food outlets – after the grim two-month double-whammy before and after Christmas – has suddenly been put on hold.
And for some, that dramatic drop in business could prove fatal.
So, if you’ve got a favourite restaurant or cafe, do what you can to support them. Grab a gift voucher for later, or, if you’re hungry now, justorder a takeaway. Even if they don’t normally do takeaways.
And if you need to save the planet in more ways than one, Nature’s Gold have never been busier, whilst AnniePooh is ready to take your order online.
It’s early days, of course, as we settle in for 15 snow days, but it’s heartening to see how quickly the town has pulled together already – from free deliveries of medicine and books to free hearing aid batteries and the likes of local author Steven Duggan donating all proceeds going forward from his latest book, the black comedy The Elder Terror, to the Alone charity.
And there’s the loyal Three Q’s fan who swung by the Quinns yesterday, offering to pay for her next 100 cups of coffee. Boom! That’s the kind of town we live in.
So, if you’re a fan of this particular, peculiar little patch of ours, go show your support, and help a neighbour remain a neighbour. And everyone’s got to eat.
So, go spread the love. And, if you can manage it, nothing else.
