Cliff Walk Becoming Rubbish Trail?
May 8, 2021

s proven by The Whale’s rather magical outdoor cinema screenings at The Cove, we Greystonians love our movies in the wild.

And now, those good people at St Patrick’s School have raised the fun and games somewhat with Wicklow’s biggest-ever drive-in movie.

Taking place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th of June, there will be four films over the two days in a pretty much perfect field in sunny Kilquade.

Three of the movies were initially confirmedThe Lion King (not the 1994 original animated feature, but the pointless 2019 live-CGI remake), the 1984 handbag favourite Footloose and the all-singing, all-dancing, all-conquering 2017 musical The Greatest Showman – with, after much haggling, Top Gun joining the party late.

Here’s the official lowdown for the hoedown…

The Greystones Drive-In, in association with Just Eat, Ireland’s leading food ordering and delivery app, is coming to a location near you on the weekend of the 12th – 13th June 2021.

The drive-in experience is brought to you by St. Patrick’s National School, with the support of schools from the whole community and sponsors.

This is the first time this massive 45 square-metre drive-in movie screen has been to Wicklow. There will be four movies screened over the weekend of the 12th and 13t June, the top of the range screen will be located at Priestnewtown, opposite Kilquade Cemetery. Check out the screening choices and book your car in for a unique movie experience. Tickets are €30.00 plus booking fee, over on the Greystones Drive-In website here.

Rachel Harper, School Principal of St. Patrick’s National School said: “The school has been very restricted in our fundraising options this year and we wanted an event that would be fun, safe, and enjoyed by everyone, and we found it! We are getting the whole community behind it by inviting all the schools in the area to get involved. This means they also benefit from their school ticket sales. Finally, we have something fun and safe to look forward to, and there is a real buzz about town already.”

Kyle O’Connell, the man responsible for bringing the 45-metre screen to town, is the Parent-Teacher Association Chair of St. Patrick’s and the Director of Irish Film & Television Services said; “This is a real treat for our community, the first of its scale in Wicklow. We owe a big thanks to Grattan Evans, for providing the perfect location and we are very grateful to our sponsors who have already pledged their support: Just Eat, Spirit Burton Cars, Derek Byrne Property Consultants, Camile Thai, ITCO Laptop Repairs, Fleetwash, Claims Planet, Spintelligent, Access Automation, EBS, Shoe Lane and Ciara’s Kitchen.”

Commenting on this sponsorship announcement, Just Eat Managing Director Amanda Roche-Kelly said; “As we prepare for another summer outside, hopefully welcoming some warmer weather, we are delighted to sponsor the Greystones Drive-In, which is not only a great source of entertainment but a safe, socially distanced and fun event that the whole family can enjoy. To further enhance the experience for moviegoers, we will be giving away Just Eat discount vouchers which can be used on the Just Eat app in local restaurants like Buoys Kitchen, Camile Thai and Daata for a pre-theatre family meal or an after movie treat.”
