iven that it might just be the most popular playground within a 10-mile radius – or more – it’s hardly surprising that our South Beach house of fun gets some major wear and tear.
The sheer numbers means that every swing, every slide, climbing frame, musical instrument, zip wire and beyond has been working day-in, day-out for the past three years to keep our kids happy.
And their parents sane.
Such intense love and daily use is the reason why local councillor Jodie Neary decided last October to form a Sunday morning group of volunteers to spend an hour making sure that the playground gets a little TLC, with paths cleared, those musical instruments cleaned, and the likes of huts, swings, slides and beyond all getting a quick once-over.
Partly because, hey, it’s nice to be clean and tidy, but also to ensure a long and happy life for the playground, and all the fun that resides within.
The weekly meet-up may be on hold, due to Covid, but with broken equipment about to be replaced, a quick dusting is needed.
Meeting Saturday 16th, at 11am, with hi-vis jackets and tools provided, if you feel you can spare an hour (or thereabouts), you can reach Jodie on email@example.com.
