Kaci Gets Ready To KO

hen we first met up with Kaci Rock back in January 2019, the Greystones teen was already boxing very clever.

The fighting fit 16-year was already a three-time Leinster champ, a three-time, a five-time Intercounty champ and 3-time All-Ireland champ.

To have since gone through over 20 months of not being able to train – never mind actually get in the ring – has been one of the toughest challenges this very tough cookie has ever faced.

“It’s been a long journey,” says Kaci. “You would think not getting up at 5.30am to go running and then spending every evening training in a gym would be a welcome break, but I couldn’t wait to get back to strapping on these gloves and jumping back in the ring.”

Which is just what Kaci will be doing in front of a live TV audience on TG4 this coming Saturday, when the Enniskerry Boxing Club contender will face Galway’s Keisha Atewell in the final of the National Elite Championships. Having just turned 19, Kaci will be one of the youngest ever contenders for the title, and should she have her arm raised just after that final bell, the world championships beckon.

Just how all that might feel Kaci can find out from her pop, Jim, the only Irish professional boxer to have held the Irish title at four different weights divisions.
