Wicklow Triple A Alliance is very proud to announce that we have been allocated €7,000 in funding from a once-off Mental Health Ireland fund.

This funding will be used to create a Community Sensory Room, which is something that is very much needed in the local area.

During the pandemic we have had increasing numbers of people looking for therapeutic support for their sensory needs. Following on from our Greystones Sensory Garden project last year, we thought wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a specific indoor space which could be used for sensory therapy. As we do not have a building for our work, we reached out to the community centres across Wicklow in the hope of creating a partnership which would provide us with the space to house the equipment.

Little Bray Family Resource Centre offered us a dedicated space in their centre in Bray. This will be kitted out with a complete sensory room, and open to members of the public who wish to avail of its benefits. Bray Family Resource Centre will manage the admin on behalf of Wicklow Triple A Alliance.

Chairperson Aisling Foran said, “We are over the moon with this announcement. A sensory room is something we have wanted to develop for years. Partnerships like this are vital for our organisation, as we are voluntary ran, and rely on member donations and pockets of funding to run our programmes. Partnerships within the community like this really places a value on neurodivergence within the community.

“As part of our Wicklow Inclusive Community Initiative we believe that spaces like sensory rooms are as important accessibility measures just like ramps for wheelchair users. We are working on several projects at the moment which will further enhance the opportunities for persons with hidden disabilities.

“We are very grateful to Little Bray Family Resource Centre for partnering with us and hope to see many other community centres and public offices follow suit.”
