ress release from the HSE, issued on Wednesday, April 20th 2022…
Organ Donation awareness is an essential part of ensuring that a sustainable transplant programme can survive and thrive.
It is only because of the generosity of the Irish public that patients can receive the life saving treatment of an organ transplant.
A working group on Public Awareness was established in ODTI in 2014. The group has representation from the relevant services and advocacy groups. In 2015, the group commissioned a public survey on attitudes to organ donation. Its results are incorporated into the ODTI Annual Report 2015.
The Irish Kidney Association have a long experience of organ donation awareness and deliver specific organ donation awareness initiatives, including circulation of organ donor awareness cards and organising Organ Donation Awareness Week each year.
With between 600 and 700 people in Ireland currently on a waiting list for a transplant, you can get your organ donor card by texting DONOR to 50030 or simply signing your drivers licence.
Further information can be obtained from their website here, and more on organ donation in Ireland here.
