Think they might just be happy…
here must be something in the water around here…
With all the hoopla around Delgany National School’s hockey team winning the Leinster Cup on Tuesday, GG didn’t find out about the other big local winners on the day until nearly 24 hours later.
Mainly because the school involved don’t have any access to emails. Or phones. Or pigeons.
How else to explain the total lack of communication with the town’s great big mouthpiece? Thankfully, proud mums Debbie Fisher and Bev Burgess did get in touch – and they brought pics and a video with them too.
Nice.
Debbie tells us it was the Girls 6th Class hockey team who won their division of the Leinster School League Cup on Tuesday up in Three Rock Hockey Club – and it was the first time St Patrick’s have ever won the girls league!
And it so very nearly didn’t happen, with the match hitting the full-time cap on 0-0. A goal was finally scored in extra time by Rebecca Mungavin – 2 minutes before the final whistle blew!
Double noice! Teachers at St Patrick’s have told Rebecca that she doesn’t have to do any homework for the rest of the year.
Once again, the team were coached by the mighty Craig Aston and the lovely Aaron from Southside School Sports. The team itself was captained by Faith Brock, and comprised of Rebecca Mungavin, Hannah O’Connor, Imke Fulham, Alannah Cahill, Isabella Golby, Sophie O’Sullivan, Alisha Purcell, Marlena Barnwell, Leah McLaughlin, Chloe Fisher, Katie Bell, Amy Kennedy, Kirsty Young, Catherine Darcy and Jessica Burgess-Nott.
We had hoped to talked to the girls this evening, but they’re all still up in the Horse…
Thanks to Bev for the final whistle moment…
