Young Basil Miller has been in touch about a new planning application going on in Blacklion.
It’s for a restaurant/takeaway, noon to midnight, and pretty much at the exact same spot that the Great McDonald’s Defeat of 2017 occurred, begorrah.
These foodie plans are set for the former Curves HQ, and the big question is, are they fast foodie plans…?
As the No Fry Zone and WCC get a pat on the back at the Royal College of Surgeons today, Basil is concerned…
Just to let you know there’s a planning application into WCC for the former Curves premises at Blacklion Retail Centre, for a restaurant/takeaway. Unless it’s a low-fat, low-salt takeout or maybe a salad bar, this application should have been returned to the applicant with a letter pointing out that Objective RT 71 of the CDP bars fast food joints within 400 metres of a school or playground boundary. This premises is about 160m from the three nearby schools.
By the same token, I should tell you that WCC has today been presented with the inaugural Commitment to Public Health Award by ASOI (Association for the Study of Obesity ) “for their commitment to public health in implementing a No Fry Zone initiative & being the 1st county in Ireland to do so!” at their annual conference 2018.
You can check out the new planning application here, and follow the long and curly battle to keep fast food outlets at least 400 metres from our schools here.
