s much as we all have to watch what we eat these days – is there anything nicer than staring at a chip just before you bite it? – we also have to watch just how much we gobble up.
Which is where the growing phenomenon of the Portion Plate has come into play.
With local nutritionist Gillian McConnell already on the case with her iportion plate, four St David’s students have now joined the fray.
It was Sean Fagan who came up with the initial idea, and then, with a little support from Professor Donal O’Shea from St Vincent’s Obesity Clinic, he and three of his mates, Calum Goldsmith, Carlos Ruiz and Conor Alas, their portion plate was designed, off to a company, and now available to buy.
They were even so kind as to help out those notorious fatties the Flynn twins by presenting them with a set.
Winning an award at the recent Wicklow Enterprise competition for Best Researched Product helped their cause too, of course. An adult plate costs €12 and a child plate costs €10.
