Latest press release from Cllr Jodie Neary, issued on Thursday, November 5th 2020…
Social Democrats Cllr Jodie Neary has highlighted an ongoing concern among parents regarding road safety outside a school in Delgany – an area experiencing a construction boom in recent times. Speaking on the issue Cllr Neary says…
“This concern was raised after several parents contacted me about trucks parking on the curb outside St. Lawrence’s school in Delgany. Not only is this illegal but it is very dangerous particularly during school drop off and collection times and should not be happening. Due to the fact that many truck drivers are subcontracted and are in a rush to deliver construction material on time, Developers of surrounding housing developments are not directly responsible.
“I raised this matter at the last Council meeting and was told that this has been an ongoing issue on Chapel Road which is not of a standard to cope with this level of traffic. It is also the case that the Council are very tight on resources but they are progressing plans to upgrade the road. Ultimately it is primarily a matter for the Gardaí as a road safety issue.
“On foot of this response, I approached local Gardaí in the area who confirmed to me that the Divisional Roads Policing Unit will pay attention to this area and the illegal parking on the footpaths. I’m delighted they have taken on my concerns and those of school parents and that the area will be given extra attention from now on. This will hopefully lead to an increase in the presence of Gardaí around the school and help to alleviate road safety concerns parents and the school community may have.
“Furthermore, I hope to engage with Developers in the area to see how a more long-term solution can be put in place” concludes Cllr Jodie Neary.
