ell, thanks be to Jaysus for the 327 Ultima Oil trucks at the end – otherwise, you’d never know the Greystones’ Paddy’s Day Parade 2016 had come to an
end.
Come back, Noble Dump Trucks – all is forgiven!
The weather was kind, the kids were smiling, the parents were licking their lips for a well-
earned pint in the afternoon, and the Mayor of Kilcoole turned up on his tractor. Nice.
And even if that backdrop of an attempted overnight robbery on the town’s Permanent TSB branch brought a little Love/Hate to this Paddy Love-In, it certainly wasn’t enough to
spoil the good vibrations permeating through Greystones on this fine March day.
It was a day when people would stop to talk to a dog, just because he was the size of your average show pony. Where the Greystones First Responders – always ready to jolt your heart back into action – strolled up the town celebrating their 10th anniversary with The Bee Gees’ Stayin’ Alive blasting out of their stereo.
That’s the spirit!
It’s the spirit of Greystones in a nutshell, in fact. Help one another, make your day better, and have a little fun in the process. And make sure you have a few legends like Danny Hatton in the mix too.
All that was missing was Mrs Mooney – Greystones’ Person Of The Year 2016 – being carried shoulder-high through the streets, but, hey, the woman needs her rest right now. We’ll give Bridie her own parade in the summer.

It really was the WORST I have seen in years! we were near the end, nobody had a clue where they were going, some of the marchers marched into the petrol station instead of finishing at the end! Mickey and Minnie mouse took their costume hats off right in front of us rather than finishing the parade, lucky our kids thought it was funny and were not too up set at seeing Mickey and minnie mouse as 2 kids! I
The Parade was SO Disjointed, waiting 15 min between floats and when I say float in mean a car with balloons tied to it.
I loved the spirit of anticipation , parents and kids waiting for a good time, sadly, the best part was watching the kids take place and pride as they walked the street.
