As the whole world adapts to a new reality that will be with us for some months – and possibly years – to come, it’s heartening to see the good that change can bring.
Take the Jordans, for example…
For the past 10 years, Alan has been happily running Aunty Nellie’s sweet Shop on Church Road whilst wife Joellen busied her time with event management, the two just about keeping their kids, Lilly and James, in all the comforts that today’s younger generation has become accustomed to. And then, along came Covid, and sent everything Curly-Wurly. And even a little Fizzlesticks.
As with so many other industries right now, the current pandemic knocked event management on its head, leaving Alan as the sole breadwinner in the Jordan household. Not that it was all Rhubarb & Custards with Aunty Nellie’s, their website only capable of taking orders for the Irish sweet shop franchise’s Cork HQ. These days, online is crucial.
Clearly, changes would have to be made if Greystones’ sweet sanctuary was going to survive.
Which is why this evening, there’s a new sign going up over the door. And there’s a new business partner in town too. Boys and girls, say goodbye to Aunty Nellie’s Sweet Shop and say hello to Sweet Boutique, run by the wedded Wonka wonders, Alan and Joellen.
With a little sweet-testing help from Lilly and James, of course.
Open from 11am to 6pm Monday to Thursday, then 11am to 7pm till Sunday, the Sweet Boutique website is now also alive and kicking. And you can always just pop by, of course.
In the meantime, we caught up with the fondant foursome about their new Greystones adventure…
