s the campaign to save Delgany’s Honeybrook Cottage gathers momentum, Wicklow Planning have been checking out owner Des Donegan’s application.

And they’ve just deemed it incomplete.

Situated in the heart of Delgany village’s official architectural conservation area, bizarrely, this 18th century cottage is not a listed building. Despite its rich history.

Alice O’Donnell of Delgany Community Council reacted to the Incomplete Application this morning…

Delgany Community Council is viewing this as a temporary reprieve for Honeybrook. It provides an ideal opportunity to have the building assessed for inclusion on the Record of Protected structures. We will work with our local councillors to ensure that this happens.

The history of the three buildings (Honeybrook, Westgate and Malvern) is fascinating and should be respected. Given that the building is within the Architectural Conservation Area of the village we would hope that no planning permission will be granted for a building that is out of scale and not in keeping with the surroundings of the cottage.

This planning application really grabbed the attention of local residents who decided that Delgany and its heritage are worth fighting for. We would like to thank all of those who had already lodged objections (and we hope that WCC will refund their €20 fee) as well as those who were about to do so this week. No doubt we will be calling on them again at some point.

Delgany is a special place and we will continue to work to improve it and to make sure that it’s heritage is protected.
