t’s always difficult to know what to say to someone who has just lost a loved one…
You can always try a few traditional words of comfort, letting them know just how much their dearly departed will be missed.
Then again, maybe a little borrowed philosophy about this notoriously mortal coil might help bring a little perspective into the equation.
Always look on the bright side of death, and all that. As the late, great W.C. Fields quipped, it’s a funny old world, and you’d be lucky to get out of it alive. 
When it came to the big farewell, Sir Woody of Allen famously said that he wasn’t afraid of dying, he just didn’t want to be there when it happened, whilst an anonymous London graffiti artist of the late ’70s perhaps said it best when he sprayed ‘Death is just nature’s way of telling you to slow down’.
And as to why more and more people are choosing cremation for their final curtain, well, must be nice to finally have a smoking, hot body.
Which all goes to prove that you have to hold on to your sense of humour when dealing with the final curtain, embracing all the joyous, triumphant and plain ol’ silly moments that makes up a life well lived.
May all such happy memories flood over those who knew and loved the friends we have lost…
Brian Waddell Blacklion Manor
Brian passed away peacefully, in the care of the wonderful staff at Wicklow Hospice, on 18th April 2024. Beloved husband of Jacqueline Waddell (née d’Arcy) and much loved father of Sarah and David, father in law of Lisa, and very proud grandfather of Oscar and Joseph. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, children, grandchildren, brother Bob (deceased), sister-in-law Claire and nieces and nephews.
Cremation Service will take place in McCrea’s Cremation Chapel, Dublin Road, Wicklow Town (A67E003) on Saturday, 27th April 2024, at 12.00 noon for all those wishing to attend. Senan Fintan Reidy Kilcoole
Senan Fintan Reidy of Kilcoole, Co. Wicklow, former teacher at St Thomas’ in Bray and originally from Kilmihil, Co. Clare who passed away on Friday 12th April 2024 peacefully in the presence of his family at St Vincent’s University Hospital. Mourned and sadly missed by his loving wife Valerie, daughters Ellen and Aisling, sisters Bernadette, Geraldine and Mary, brother Kevin, aunts Sylvia Whyte and Deirdre O’Shea and by all his extended family and loyal friends. Predeceased by his parents Dympna and Thomas Reidy and his adoring grandmother Loretta Devine. May he rest in peace.
