The Circus Comes To Belmont

ur good friends at Circus Gerbola have a habit of pulling something very special out of the top hat when they come to town…

Such as, you know, having a real-life rock’n’roll circus in Greystones, with UFO covering Thin Lizzy’s Live & Dangerous with clowns to the left of them, jugglers to the right.

And now they’re setting up their big top in the rather splendid surrounds of Belmont Demesne up on Windgates Hill.

With shows from Wednesday 18th to Sunday 22nd, it should have been enough for Jane and the gang to have their top-of-the-range big top light up the Wicklow wilds with all kinds of circus magic, mayhem and mischief.

Naturally, they felt they could make this visit even more special.

“We just felt that the location was so beautiful, we should do something off-the-menu here,” says Jane, who has been steering Circus Gerbola around Ireland’s funkier towns for many a year. “Especially given that we had that rock’n’roll circus in Greystones in 2017.

“So, we reckoned a Gala Night for Tiglin would make sense, and without missing a beat, Kila said they’d help make it another rock’n’roll circus of sorts. And then Cormac Breatnach signed on, as did Tiglin’s own Cian O’Melia, and then, talking to John Glynn, and that convinced me that his foundation should be part of the night too…”

With a surprise ringmaster also in store, the Greystones Circus Spectacular is happening on Thursday, May 19th, doors at 7pm, the madness at 7.30pm. Tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime fundraiser are €25, available here. There’s also a walk-in special of €75 on the night for a family of five.
