or a certain generation of Greystonians, Joe Sweeney is like a godfather.

And some reckon he may even be The Godfather.

He’s a man that has always been there, whether it’s as a builder, or a councillor, or just barking orders behind the counter at his famous chipper.

No matter what the changes, whatever the weather, or how the economy happened to be doing, you could always rely on Joe. The man never changed.

Even when there was a very slight chance he could be wrong.

Born on August 9th 1932 down at the long-gone North Beach cottages, Joe is still down by the water, still the town’s one true harbour master.
