ifty years in any line of work is a remarkable achievement, but when it comes to
the world of rock agus roll, it’s damn near a miracle.
For registered sax offender Eamon Murray, playing music has been pretty much his entire adult life.
Which is why a bunch of very famous friends and fellow musicians are holding a 50th anniversary celebration at The Meetings on Sunday, October 1st.
With everyone from Leslie Dowdall to Chris Meehan and His Redneck Friends reelin’ in the years, we’re assured that there will be one very special guest popping by too.
Yowsa.
Here’s a little about the great man himself…
Eamon Murray – a man of many talents – has been playing music around Ireland for more than five decades. As well as being a virtuoso harmonica and saxophone player in a variety of genres, he regularly performed lead vocals and was known as a being a dream to work with.
In recent years ill health has put a stop to Eamon’s gigging days – but he remains an enthusiastic listener and is really looking forward to meeting old and new friends at Sunday’s gig on home turf. He said, “It’s brilliant. I’m really going to love the music – and am very happy that the gig is happening locally”.

Rynagh…
Eamon is a long time resident of Cois Abhainn in Greenane near Rathdrum – in a development of seven, elegant, A-framed timber houses. It has been his home since 2004 with his late wife – actress Rynagh O’ Grady of Father Ted fame. Not only did they live there, but the couple also built all the houses themselves.
He is described as being a beautiful person who is loved by his family, friends and fellow musicians. The impressive array of
performers he has collaborated with over the years are too numerous to mention. Some of them will be gathering on Sunday
1st October at The Meetings in Avoca to celebrate Eamon’s half century in music.
