On reflection…
e’ve long been fans of Kilcoole photographer Chris Dobson
here at GG HQ.
Initially, it was his wonderful portraits and landscapes shots taken down through the decades of his native town and its people.
As time went on though, and the cameras got more expensive and the lens got ever longer, Chris turned more and more to nature, managing to capture moments, sights and creatures few of us would otherwise witness so up close and personal.
“I’ve been interested in nature since my early teens,” explains Chris, “so, being able to record it this way, it’s just a natural fit for me.
“What excites me with nature and wildlife is, every time you go out, you don’t know what you’re going to see. Or what you’re going to meet…”
A bit like Cabana’s. Which has made Chris incredibly aware of his surroundings, and enormously patient when it comes to catching that perfect shot.
“It’s a little bit like being in lockdown,” he laughs. “You’re just alone, waiting, and waiting, and just hoping that right here, right now, you’ll get lucky, and that incredible bird will fly into view, or that sly fox will sneak on by.
“And pretty much always, it’s worth it. If you don’t get the bird, well, at least you got the serenity…”
