It’s a reflection of just how big a star Rebecca Storm is, and just how much support Greystones Cancer Support have in this town, that the upcoming fundraising night at The Whale sold out before we even got a chance to mention it.
Happening on Saturday, November 4th, this all-star night was always going to be a popular one, but, the speed of the sellout caught even GG by surprise.
This is the woman, after all, who has pretty much ruled musical theatre for the last 35 years. It was her performance, aged 23, in Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers back in 1981 that propelled the Yorkshire lass born Elizabeth Hewlett to international stardom. Since then, roles such as Eva Peron in Evita, Fantine in Les Misérables and Edith Piaf in Piaf have cemented Rebecca Storm’s reputation as one of the all-time greats when it comes to belting out those musical show-stoppers.
And the lady is coming to Greystones, thanks not only to Ross McParland at the Whale Theatre (who secured Ms Storm’s presence) but also Mark and Mary Molloy at the Horse & Hound (who are kindly supporting the night) and, of course, Kathleen Kelleher and Anne Doody, along with the rest of the Greystones Cancer Support gang.
The big night will have the mighty Maclean Burke as MC, and there will also be the big reveals for this year’s Super Draw, as the winners are chosen for a bevy of beautiful prizes. Including a €1,000 spending spree from Anne Daly at SuperValu.
We swung by the GCS HQ this morning on La Touche Place to find out more. But mainly to try and embarrass Anne Bateman by catching her on camera. If you’re tempted to try, there’s a cancellation list for Rebecca Storm right about here.
Now, go check out the other groovy gigs at our groovy new theatre right here.
