t may be fun-sized, but that doesn’t mean the annual VHI Women’s Mini Marathon isn’t a tough mountain to climb.
Or, to be more precise, a hard 10K of Dublin streets to run.
Having taken place on a particularly Irish June day, there were plenty of tough Greystones women taking part in this year’s run in aid of Greystones Cancer Support.
And they were clearly very proud to be there.
“Even the incessant rain didn’t dampen our spirits,” says Catherine Daly. “Full recovered and none the worse for wear. And so, so happy to have taken part…”
For Mary O’Neill, it was a thrill to add another medal to her collection, whilst for Yvonne Healy [above, with Catherine Daly], it was all about giving back.
“I am forever grateful for the support Greystones Cancer Support provided my son when I was in treatment,” she says, “so, I was more than happy to help by taking part in the marathon.”
“I finished in one hour and three minutes,” says a delighted Suzi O’Toole, “which actually took me by surprise. Then again, I was running for Greystones Cancer Support and for the wonderful Sheena Brennan. So, I had the wind behind me.
“And the rain, of course…”
Well done to everyone involved. You can find out more about the marathon here, and about Greystones Cancer Support right here.
