or Greystones’ Róisín Sullivan, landing the part of Maria in The Sound Of Music last December brought her passion for Julie Andrews to The National Concert Hall.

And it sparked her new show, Just Julie, coming to The Whale on Sunday, October 1st…

There’s no question that Julie Andrews managed to land herself in some iconic roles that have become part of Hollywood history.

From Maria in The Sound of Music to Mary Poppins, The Princess Diaries, that thoroughly modern Millie or the bould Mary Popouts in Victor/Victoria, the dame formerly known as Julia Elizabeth Wells has left her mark on cinema.

And Julie also made quite the impression on Greystones’s very own West End girl Róisín Sullivan, who spent last Christmas playing Maria at the National Concert Hall in a hit production of The Sound Of Music.

And that joyful occasion has led to Just Julie, Ms Sullivan’s tribute to her idol, coming to The Whale on Sunday, October 1st for one very special afternoon.

In the meantime, we asked Raisin to let us know how this show got on the road…

Last year I was fortunate enough to land the role of Maria in The Sound of Music with Festival Productions. It ran in the National Concert Hall last December and January to sold out houses. 

To say it was a dream come true is an understatement. Julie Andrews was always such a huge part of my childhood, whether she was in my living room as Maria von Trapp or Mary Poppins, or Millie.  I was gifted a signed copy of her autobiography by my sister and I started researching her a bit more. 

Her career is fascinating, from her humble beginnings as a childhood performer during the Blitz, right up to her voicing Lady Whistledown in Bridgeton. 

Following my run in The Sound of Music I had the idea of putting a show together paying tribute to her career.  It includes songs from My Fair Lady, Camelot, Mary Poppins, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Victor/Victoria and of course, The Sound of Music. 

I performed it for the first time in the John Field Room in the National Concert Hall and happily, it sold out.  I am delighted that I have the chance to perform it again in the stunning Whale Theatre on the 1^st of October, the same day that Dame Julie Andrews turns 88! 

I will joined by musical maestro David Wray on piano plus a very special guest, Chris Holland, whose voice is just out of this world.
