atest press release from Orla Finn, issued on Thursday, February 1st 2024…
Last night, to a packed house in Greystones Golf Club, Orla Finn announced that she would be running as an Independent candidate in the upcoming local elections.
Orla has lived in Greystones for over 25 years and has dedicated herself to various committees and organisations in order to improve our community. She was a member of the team which delivered our inclusive South Beach playground, is currently a Board member of Wicklow Dementia Support and a Co-founder and Chairperson of the North Wicklow Women’s Shed.
The thing Orla enjoys most about working in her community is her ability to get projects across the line and to actually get stuff done. This includes her work as one of the team members who first established CoderDojo in Greystones, Programme Co-ordinator for a local weekly Musical Memories group which supports people with dementia and their families, and a former assistant coach of Eire Og Greystones GAA Club. Orla strongly believes in supporting local business and to that end established the Up Off the Couch and local Adopt A Shop initiative.
Orla said, “I never imagined myself in politics but I became involved in running local projects nearly 20 years ago as I wanted to help build a better community for all of us. I know that politics can deliver positive change.
“We need more local jobs, improved community facilities, better access for people with disabilities, reliable public transport, climate change solutions, better access to healthcare and school places for all.
“I believe that our community needs a strong, Independent voice that is solely focused on these issues. A voice that can advocate for those that need it most.
“A voice that will bridge a cop between our community and those in WCC. As an Independent candidate, I am that voice.”
