elgany residents woke up to the shocking news this morning that plans for a three-storey apartment block behind The Wicklow Arms have been approved.
The 12 apartments will back on to and overlook a 6th century monastic site.
According to Friends of Delgany, the development will entail…
Demolition of the existing extension to the rear of the old public house and construction of two-storey extension to house retail units at ground floor level and office first floor level.
Construction of a three-storey apartment block (see the picture above) with ground floor retail units, backing onto and overlooking 6th century monastic site in Delgany village. This is the most worrying aspect from a conservation architectural perspective.
Development of 12 town houses with access through Bellevue Court. Residents of Bellevue Court are vehemently opposed to this as vehicular traffic through the estate is already very difficult due to the volume of traffic around the estate. They are also afraid that if there is a serious incident, emergency vehicles will not be able to reach their destination in a timely manner, due to badly parked cars.
