Greystones District Councillor Jennifer Whitmore has formally joined the Social Democrats. Whitmore made the announcement at a public meeting held by Whitmore and Social Democrats TD for Wicklow and East Carlow Stephen Donnelly earlier this week.
Speaking in Greystones today Whitmore stated, “I am very proud to be able to officially call myself a Social Democrat. I formally announced my involvement last night at the first Wicklow Social Democrat meeting with Stephen Donnelly TD. Social democracy is all about building strong communities that are underpinned by a thriving economy. Their values are ones of transparency and fairness.
“I believe that the 3 leaders of the Social Democrats (Stephen Donnelly TD, Roisin Shorthall TD and Catherine Murphy TD) have espoused these principles and values during their time in the Dail and I am very proud to be able to call myself a member of the team. I will continue to work for the people of Greystones, Kilcoole, Delgany and Newcastle as I have to date. I will continue to work with individuals and communities to make this district a better place to live. My ambition to achieve that work will not change or diminish. But I am now a part of something bigger – a party that can change the direction that we are going in as a country. That can make this a better society for everyone. That can make Ireland a place where I will be happy for my children to grow and live in.
Speaking on the announcement, Donnelly stated, “I am delighted to welcome Councillor Whitmore to the Social Democrats team. Jennifer and I have been working together for a number of years and I was delighted that she is now becoming a Social Democrat. Jennifer has been involved right from the start with the Social Democrats and her formally joining is a huge boost to the party.
