Recognising a good thing when they see it, the Department of Arts & Heritage have just purchased almost 5,000 acres to add to the Wicklow Mountains National Park.
That brings our back garden up to an impressive 54,000 acres, baby.
As Wicklow County Council continue their mission to turn the Garden Of Ireland into the Patio Of Ireland by plonking concrete where’er they go, it’s heartening to see our government recognising the importance of preserving our most precious resource – unmolested nature.
The new acreage is in the Featherbeds area (nope, never heard of it either, but, hey, what a name), and it’s coming with a price tag of €800,000. Which is a bargain, considering the size. And, of course, the location, location, location.
In other good news, Richard Roche is coming home from Chicago for Christmas – and he promises to go back before 2017 kicks in.
