It might be fair to say that William ‘Willie’ Doyle was a quiet man.
A quick search through almost 10 years of Guide archives uncovered not even one mention of the man.
And yet, he was station master at Greystones Train Station for many years, was a long-time member of Greystones Golf Club, and was noted for knowing his way around a tune.
So, how the heck did this man not pop up on our radar? Well, we reckon it’s because Willie Doyle wasn’t one to blow his own trumpet. Especially when he was singing.
Formerly of La Touche Close, Willie sadly passed away at Greystones Nursing Home on Friday, August 7th, having been predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend of 65 years, Gertie (née Flynn), as well as brothers Jimmy, Jack, Paddy, Gerry and Richard.
The man will be sadly missed by his loving family, siblings Kevin, Mary Dicker, Peter, Larry and Ann Lang, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, close friends and neighbours.
Willie’s funeral will be at the Holy Rosary Church at 1pm this Tuesday, August 11th, after which he will be laid to rest in Redford Cemetery…
