It’s been a long time coming, with one or two setbacks, but work finally started today on St David’s new extension.
Having been first granted planning permission back in July 2017, the completed building will see a new sports centre, fitness suite, classrooms, technology room and media room added to the school.
There will also be additional parking spaces, and a refurbishment of the existing building.
Speaking of today’s preparation works for the official turning of the sod, Principal of St David’s Mary O’Doherty, said she was delighted to see the works commence after eight long years.
A statement issued by the school read, ‘She would like to thank all of the people who voiced their support in the public domain for the extension and refurbishment of St. David’s.
‘She would particularly like to thank our esteemed past pupils, Minister Stephen Donnelly, and Minister Simon Harris.
‘Many thanks to all of the community in Greystones for their unwavering support for the project.’
