here’s undoubtedly a happiness radar inside every dog – and when it pings, they really, really need to join the party.

Trying to get shots of Fernanda and Michaela down at V.I.Pets as they held up their freshly-minted award, well, Miss Coco Gomez knew something good was up.

And that meant she was soon jumping up, trying to get a proper lick of that shiny award.

In truth, that Salon-Based Dog Groomer Of The Year award is partly Coco’s, given that she’s as much a part of the team as Michaela, Hannah and Yvonne.

“Like any loved dog, Coco is always happy,” says Fernanda, who opened V.I.Pets on Theatre Lane in January 2020, after previous occupant Maria Sweeney decided to go back to her first love, exotic dancing. “And having such a dog around makes our workplace a very happy one too.

“So, coming into work each day is a joy, and hopefully that reaches our customers too. The four-legged and two-legged varieties.”

The Local Pet Awards Ireland 2023 is a relatively new venture, but the judges clearly know their furry facts and figures, picking V.I.Pets from, at last count, 5,432,897 dog grooming salons across the country. Give or take.

“Well, we are a country that loves their dogs,” nods Fernanda. “And Greystones might be the best example of that. It seems like every second person has a dog here.

“And every other person wishes they had a dog…”

To celebrate their national award, V.I.Pets will be donating this Friday’s takings to Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind.
