Being the little clever clogs that they are, Gino’s Gelato realised when setting up home in Greystones that the winters can get a little chilly around here.
And so, alongside their rather fine, award-winning homemade ice cream, they decided to offer some hot alternatives.
Such as waffles. And crepes. And, most impressively of all, some full-blown, Grade A, top-of-the-range Italian pizza, courtesy of a full-blown, Grade A, top-of-the-range Italian pizza master, Lorenzo.
So, as you enter the stupidly-popular Church Road eaterie, you can now turn left for Gino’s Gelato, or take the right lane for Gino’s Pizza.
“We wanted to make sure that we got this right when it came to the pizzas,” says Lorenzo with his ever-present broad smile, “and that meant we’re really just going full throttle now.
“Basically, we’re making pizzas that my papa would be proud of…”
Ah, of course, like any true-blood Italian chef, Lorenzo learnt all his kitchen skills from his parents, thanks to the family bakery back in Rome. Taking those skills around the world, Lorenzo finally landed in Ireland in 2009, after two years baking up a storm in New Zealand.
“And I fell in love with this country straight away,” he smiles. “Really love it here. And to be able to bring what I learnt back in the family business in Roma to Ireland, well, that makes me feel that Greystones is my home away from home.”
With their spanking new website just launched, you can check out Gino’s Pizzahere. And it’s worth noting that all 9-inch pizzas are just €5 from Monday to Wednesday. BOOM!
In the meantime, we grabbed five minutes with Lorenzo to talk pizzas, parents and perfection…
