A Poem For RonnieAugust 20, 2019
As summer starts to pack up its gloriously long days, it’s time to start embracing the night again.
And with The Whale and The Hot Spot about to come out of their August hibernation, there’s plenty of opportunities to let the good times roll.
Leading the way, as always, there are three diddley-aye fixes available each week – Tuesday’s open session in Dann’s, Brian Farrell and co gathering around the Horse fire on Wednesdays, and Ger Doyle caught in fiddle-driven time warp every Thursday in Dann’s. Forever. And ever.
To make sure your Friday nights are a-boppin’, The Brian Meakin Band will be rockin’ the bejiggers out of Dann’s on the 23rd whilst Big Mama Mia will be soul-rockin’ the shit out of the place on August 30th.
Making sure that your joints are rockin’ on a Saturday night, on the 24th, over in sunny Kilcoole, they have All Kinds Of Everything at Lee’s, Something Else are in The Beach House, and over in Pluck’s, they have local legend Karl Ivers. On the 31st, there’s an surprise guest at Lee’s, Take It Easy are in The Beach House, and over in Pluck’s, they have the bould Lisa Kavanagh. And the way she might look at ya.
Back on September 1st, on Sunday afternoons at The Hot Spot, it’s Pat’s Afternoon Session, kicking off at 5pm and winding down around 1974.
As always, don’t forget to check out The Whale (including Greystones Film Club goodies and that Aretha night on Sept 7th), Pluck’s, and The Hot Spot for all the groovy gigs happening over the coming weeks – plus, of course, the finest bar on the planet, The Harbour Bar.
