Some of GG’s more astute readers may have noticed already, but, we’re slowly emerging from lockdown, people…  

So we can hopefully kick Covid-19’s ass, self-isolation has long been the soup of the day – and that means our usually jam-packed Greystones calendar is looking very different today.

And with the restrictions now limiting us all to keeping within 5km of our homes, not sure there’s much point in checking out the beautiful trails out there. Then again, our guide does feature lots of shots, and video, if you want to go for a virtual walk.

Talking of lots of shots and videos, there’s also our extensive archives of vintage photographs, histories and interviews with the good, the bad and the incredibly smart to work your way through. Only took us eight years to put together, and we’re far from finished putting all the jigsaw pieces of Greystones’ colourful past together. You can map your journey right here.

And do think about your neighbours who are trying to keep their businesses alive during this difficult time – from shops and restaurants to theatres and beauty shops. Those who can have moved online – so, go join them there. You’ve certainly got the time.

We’re also putting up music mixes regularly on GG, which might just help past the time, with a little singing, a little dancing, maybe even a miniature party or two

For the kids, there’s our annual Battle Of The Bands furry freak-out. Both come with big, groovy prizes too! Then again, maybe your kid would like to learn French or Spanish…?

Caught by their own trawlers down at Kilmore Quay, Alison usually sets up shop 8.30am, and the van is usually empty by about 1pm. You can catch her on 0873670217, just to be sure, to be sure.

If you are looking for something constructive to do with your time, there are plenty of volunteer groups popping up around the town and beyond to help the elderly and vulnerable. You can also, of course, go check on any old people living alone in your immediate circle…

With Greystones’ restaurant, bars and theatres closed because of Covid-19, many eateries are now turning to takeaways as their lifeline. So, grab something yummy for your tummy, and help a neighbour out, right here.

There’s also the beautiful gesture of a gift voucher, for the receiver and the giver – and, right now, the business itself.

Meanwhile, Enso have reintroduced their wonderful special whereby all pizzas are €10, all day. BOOM!

From Monday to Friday, 12 noon to 4pm, Domino’s in Charlesland have some yummy lunch specials, including personal pizzas with four toppings for just €4, small for €7, medium for €10 and large for €13. Get your lunch delivered! Nice. Lots of other specials here too.

The Powerscourt Estate has teamed up with Fighting Words for a Poetry In Bloom competition, with kids invited to create poems or lyrics celebrating nature.
