Youth Cafe Project For Trafalgar Road

t’s long been said but, beyond playing Name That Leaf in Burnaby Park or having staring matches with Ron Seal, there ain’t a huge amount of fun options for Greystones teenagers.

Thankfully, some of the elders in the town have begun to feel their pain. And they’re doing something about it.

Whilst Jennifer Whitmore and co set about finding out if a youth centre can land in Charlesland, Coolnagreina down near the harbour have set in motion plans to turn one of their old houses into a youth cafe.

Huzzah!

The local for the town centre youth centre will be what’s popularly called The Manhouse at Coolnagreina, facing Trafalgar Road, and the cafe is envisaged as ‘a safe place for youth, aged 12-19, where they can come do homework or connect with friends over a slice of pizza and an ice-cold smoothie’. The plan is also to use the centre for movies, music and Alpha courses.

The latter, will be run in conjunction with the Xavier School of Gifted Youngsters.

The first step will involve the removal of walls and the insertion of steel supports, an initial step that will cost €11,000. So far, as of September 24th, 2016, the amount raised is €1,092.
