t’s a fine time to be young and in love with books right now, as Greystones Library have a plethora of poptastic happenings a-happenin’.

As well as a monthly Young Adult Manga Book Club every first Saturday at 10am and a Men’s Book Club every second Tuesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, there’s a Seaside Book Club every 2nd Thursday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, the Between The Spine Book Club, an independent gathering on the 3rd Tuesday of each month, from 11am to 12pm, Catherine’s Book Club every 3rd Wednesday from 11am to 12pm (the library’s longest-running literary love-in) and The Moon And Stars Book Club every 3rd Thursday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

For those who like speaking in foreign tongues, there’s also the weekly conversation groups – Irish on Fridays 10am and Thursdays at 5.15pm, German on Saturdays 10am, French on Mondays 10.30am (full for two years now) and Thursdays at 11am, plus Spanish on Tuesdays and Saturdays at a 11.15am.

There’s also crafters get-togethers every Friday at 11am. And for those in tune with the finer things in life, the Greystones Music Circle meet at the library from 7pm to 9pm on the first Wednesday of each month. You can email Mary about that one here.

The teen book club chooses a book a month, and then a date to go dissect and discuss. Best phone the library below to find out which, and when. Each meeting is in the caring, sharing hands of Catherine, below.

Another relative newbie to the library’s weekly calendar is the Thursday Murder Book Club, for anyone in this happy valley who’s thinking about knocking off their annoying neighbour. Or spouse. Happening on the first Thursday of each month at 6.30pm, this is a Bring Your Own Alibi & Bleach event.

There’s a new LEGO kid in town it seems, as Magformers take over Greystones Library every Saturday from 1pm-2pm and 2pm-3pm. Aimed at kids aged 3-to-10yrs, booking is essential – as is a little imagination. Number below.

There’s a new Friday Scrabble Club at Greystones Library, running from 2pm to 4pm weekly. For those who hate being lost for words, you can join by phoning the library right about here. Word!

Organised by the notorious Greystones Arts Centre Initiative, there is a series of 4pm First Tuesday talks with local artists at Greystones library. Berets optional. Details right here.

Having started in September 2024, the Dungeons & Dragons club meet up at 2.30pm every Saturday. Aimed at 12yrs-plus, best to get in touch with the library to make sure you got a spot. You can call here.

For Einstein, everything is relative; for Darwin, everyone’s a relative. Such conundrums will be unpacked and unwound at Greystones’ new Philosophy Club, meeting on the first Saturday of each month in Greystones Library at 2.30pm. Headed up by Dr Daniel Vázquez, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Philosophy at Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, and starting on February 7th, to join, swing by, or get in touch with the library below. Says Danny boy, no previous experience of knowledge of philosophy is needed. Just bring an open mind. And a dramatic scarf.

On Wednesday, July 8th, former St Patrick’s teacher Rosemary Lynch is hosting a free Summer Stillness Mindfulness Workshop at 11am. All about slowing down, restoring balance and embracing the energy and abundance of the season. Which sounds like a plan. Booking below.

Dr. Viktoriia Bihun will be back at the library for a series of workshops over the summer, all under the umbrella title of Tiny Investigators Lab. After June’s Butterfly Life Cycle STEM comes Photosynthesis: How Plants Make Their Own Food, running on Saturday, July 11th at 10.30am, and aimed at budding scientists from 4yrs to 10yrs, with all materials provided. Colm Brennan will present Mythical Creatures Art & Poetry on Saturday, July 18th at 11am. This children’s workshop is aimed at young dreamers from 8 to 13, taking them beyond the leprachauns and faeries to explore the Púca, the banshee and the Merrow. Booking below.
