ollowing an information evening back in January at Greystones Community
National School, the fairly-newly-formed Greystones Autism-Friendly Town committee called on local businesses and community groups to hear their call tonight.
Although the fact that Greystones was officially certified an autism-friendly town back in September 2019 shows that we’re already on the right path.
Tonight’s gathering was all about making everyday spaces more inclusive and accessible for autistic people and those with hidden disabilities.
Trumpeting the growing national movement toward practical inclusion, speakers included founder and CEO of AsIAm, Adam Harris, chairperson of the Greystones Autism-Friendly Town committee, Dani Burns, and UCD student and committee member Sarah Hayden.
Young Harris explained how Greystones businesses and communities can become an accredited Autism-Friendly Champion, Ms Burns shared a design perspective centred around The Autism Design Index, which
explores accessibility for people with hidden disabilities, whilst Sarah shared her lived experience and spoke about the everyday realities, strengths and challenges of navigating public spaces and services.
Also there was the mighty John McGowan, of course, capturing the launch. You can check out his full gallery of hi-res pics here.
