Sports Day is always a highlight of the St David’s calendar.

In keeping with our annual tradition, the entire school community walked to Eire Óg G.A.A grounds for a fun-filled day of sports and games.

Many thanks to the Eire Óg G.A.A club for allowing us to use the facilities and for all of their help throughout the year.

The Sports Day is organised by Mr Dunne, Mr Shortt, our Sports Coordinator, and Mr Boland. A huge thanks to all three!

The day is of course about friendly competition but most importantly, it’s a relaxing day during which the school community can come together and have fun, be active and healthy and forget the normal ringing of the bell and daily routine.

Students participate in all of the athletic disciplines: shot put, javelin, 400m, 200m, 100m, relay.

There’s something for everybody during Sports Day and some of the most popular events included the 3-legged race, the sack race, welly throwing, the obstacle course and, of course, the tug-o-war.

At the close of the day, our 6th Year girls competed against our female teachers in the tug-o-war that comes with the prize of bragging rights for the rest of the year. So, watch out for the latter’s winning strut.

Our 6th Year boys took on our male teachers in a soccer match in the afternoon – a classic battle of the energy of youth vs the wisdom of age. This time out, brawn won over brains.
