The long-running battle between these particular kids and the harbour master (and we’re going to call Bernard that, as it’s the easiest term to describe a guy who runs a marina) has created many a stand-off. For the kids, it seems to be a simple case of Old Farmer Johnson not wanting them in his orchard, and the fact that he becomes more and

Why you blowing this shit up ain’t nobody give a fuck
If nobody give a fuck, how come you’re so passionate about it, you anonymous, illiterate, chicken-shit fuck?
Thanks for all your hard work at the Greystones guide. I love reading all your reports. There used to be a raft in the harbour but it disappeared. My husband says he thinks it went up to Clara lara when it was being developed??
I don’t agree with what the child eas doing but I can’t believe that GG publicly named minor., shame on you.
This is the kid – that we’ve spoken to – who was allegedly pushed in the water by the harbourmaster. If someone was mugged on the main street, and we only heard from the person who did the mugging, we would certainly want to talk to the victim. There’s only been one side of the story, and, away from any cameras, Liam has been very vocal about what he feels is an injustice. Those involved in the fracas are well known in the town, and it’s only fair that both sides should be able to give their version of events…
Still not one word from Paul Byrne promoting a solution to this which would provide a swimming/diving/jumping facility of some kind for teenagers and kids.
Well, I’ve been walking about the harbour area and seafront, thinking about what could be done, and I have a challenge for Paul and the Greystones Guide, one you could take along tomorrow to this meeting to discuss the issue.
There are two places where, conceivably, a tethered raft and other structures, such as a diving board or boards, could be installed. One is the new North Cove, just north of the harbour. It looks big enough to take a raft, and the rock groyne is sufficient foundation for a built-on walkway and diving boards to be constructed. Needs a survey and so forth to decide feasibility, but this should be explored.
The other site where much the same could be done is Pebble Cove opposite the La Touche, where Paul promotes the outdoor cinema shows. Again, to me it looks feasible, should not costs a fortune, and could well be a solution.
OK, Paul, let’s see if you’ll stick up for young people in a practical way, rather than turning your firepower on them on behalf of the carpetbaggers who came in here on the basis of some legal claim that was never even aired in court or revealed to the community.
Your picking up on plans already mentioned here before – namely the north beach raft, first suggested by Jennifer Whitmore. Contrary to what you seem to be implying here, Comrade Basil, we are constantly looking for ways to make Greystones a better place to be for everyone – the outdoor screenings being a case in point. And when someone like your fine self campaigns to stop McDonald’s open up beside schools, we happy to support what we believe is a just argument there too.
We’re not interested in point-scoring, or personal agendas, or even personal gain. The Guide doesn’t make a living wage, despite the seven days a week work involved – all we care about is making this town a better, and more fun, place to live. So, at ease, soldier. And you can pick your glove up off the floor too. We’re not going to waste our time getting involved in any of this chest-beating nonsense…
‘We’re not going to waste our time getting involved in any of this chest-beating nonsense…’
Which is exactly what you’ve been doing, with your undignified scrapping on here with everyone who criticise your articles about the diving/jumping.
However, I’ve just done a search of the GG site, using your search box, and I can find NOTHING — nada — on here about anyone’s suggestion of a raft, other than in comments such as my own. ‘All we care about is making this town better’ — but you have conducted no campaign for better marine facilities for young people, or any replacement of the activities which the harbour/commercial marina have deprived the community of.
I certainly found no article by you advocating such a thing. If there is, perhaps you’d put a link to it so I can read it.
This is a load of shite Paul x
This is much better than the last
