ell, we’ll say one thing for David Dodd, he’s got one hell of a sweet pad down at the South Beach.

Prime location, stunning views, tall trees, more than a few parking spots, and, best of all, eight housemates who all happen to be doctors. 

Yep, when young David first laid eyes upon that large granite and glass building that overlooks the South Beach Playground, he knew instantly that he’d finally found a home for his pharmacy.

Up to that point, it had been 25 years of roaming our fair county, helping the sick and the lame of Wicklow, Ashford and Newtownmountkennedy. But then, there was just something about the former home of a bar called Script that just screamed Prescriptions to David.

It helps, of course, when your neighbours are all doctors, the Greystones Medical Centre sharing this striking building with David Dodd Pharmacy.

Which means, of course, that you can go from doctor to chemist in about 10 steps. Which is handy. Especially when all you can manage is about 10 steps.

With Greystones’ highly-anticipated primary care centre due to open on the neighbouring council land – where there are also calls for more parking spaces – this little corner of Greystones is undoubtedly a one-stop shop for all that ails you.

And when it comes to the bespoke medical centre’s fine dispensary – where they even have a consultation room – the fact that David works alongside fellow pharmacists Declan Kerins and Ciara McKenna means that there’s never less than two people ready to get your prescription sorted.

So, on a bright and breezy Saturday afternoon, we took a swing down to David Dodd Pharmacy to talk to its founder about medicine, mash-ups and that missionary work in Newtownmountkennedy…
