Return Of The Kilmac

The writing’s on the wall…

s more and more people moan that they don’t make nights out like they used to around here, it’s clear these feckers have never made it to Pluck’s.

With the live music turned up to 11 and not a would-be Instagram influencer in sight, this Kilmac drinking hole pretty much always brings the craic.

Thanks to top-of-the-range covers warblers such as Austin Prior and Karl Ivers (a man who may very well live in the basement at Pluck’s), you were guaranteed to know, and very possibly love, each and every song.

And then, in September, Caroline and Shane moved on to pastures greener – or Portugal, as its officially known – with a fond farewell on Saturday 23rd.

People brought their hankies. And their sleeping bags. The village would never be the same again.

Only, it will be. There was much rejoicing and the shooting of guns in the air throughout Kilmac when it was announced this month that the McNamaras are returning.

Well, Shane, anyway, who’s happy to take on the bar, leaving the lounge and the rooms upstairs to another lost soul.

“We will be open seven days a week,” says Caroline, Shane’s boss, “serving the finest drinks from 3pm Monday to Friday and 12.30pm on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Mondays.

“There will be no food offering but it is believed that the adjoining restaurant will possibly open at some stage in the new year.”

With the bar having served the good people of Kilmacanogue for over 200 years, it’s clearly the hub and heartbeat of the village.

“There’s an amazing community here,” finishes Caroline, “and we are delighted to be back in the centre of it…”
