resh from the ferry, and sunny Wales, it’s a wonder that the four Greystones Rowing Club lads standing outside The Beach House bar can still stand.

Rarin’ to go…

When the rest of us Greystonians were all tucked up in our beds Friday night, these four hardy lads were rowing all the way from Wicklow to the Welsh coastal town of Aberystweth. 

All night long.

Roarin’ to sleep…

Having left Ireland at 3pm on Friday, the sun was already high in the sky on Saturday when the lads crossed the Celtic Challenge finish line.

In the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest open water race in the world, the Celtic Challenge is not for the feint-hearted. Or the limp-wristed.

It was as part of the neighbouring Vartry Rowing Club that John, Paddy, Alan and Tommy scored this incredible victory. After the disappointment of last year’s 11th-hour cancellation, it’s a victory that could hardly be sweeter.

It’s good to know we have these guys on our team when the Greystones Rowing Club start battling for silverware over the coming summer months…
