Get On The Good Footpath

Ask anyone who has ever done the school run to Laurence’s, or just tried to stagger home on the back roads after a Horseful, that Chapel Road has long been a hazardous little assault course.

If the broken and uneven footpath didn’t send you the flying, the trucks mounting the kerb – not to mention the dog poo bags falling from a buckled branch – were ready to derail you at every turn.

Well, not anymore, my fat friends, as a long and dedicated campaign to upgrade this old but vital road has culminated in today’s official opening of a shiny, new stretch of track.

Present and correct to cut the ribbon was Cathaoirleach Derek Mitchell – who thanked the National Transport Authority for the moolah – along with various WCC officials, the funky Fawcitts (who gave up a stretch of their garden for the new footpath) and the woman who spearheaded the campaign, demanding do-gooder Jennifer Whitmore.

After the big hurrah, we managed to grab Whitmore for a few minutes, to find out about the long and winding road to today’s happy happening…
