Horse First Past The Post Yet Again

Take that, Irish Restaurant Awards!

e know they’re always dang busy up at The Horse, but to have a whole new restaurant open up and not have the time agus decency to tell their beloved GG, well, that’s bang out of order.

And yet, there it was, flapping in the wind, a new sign waving hello to the street, inviting us all in to Holway’s Restaurant.

Established in 1992, apparently, even if no one in Delgany has ever heard of the place before.

We were about to slap the man of the house, young Kevin, about the head and face with our duelling glove when GG’s foggy memory cleared just long enough to remember hear tell of a film shoot going on in the village. Namely the latest series of a German TV crime series set in Ireland – imaginatively-titled The Irish Crime – that regularly draws down 8 million viewers per episode.

Gott im Hector! That’s impressive.

In truth we were there because, once again, The Horse And Hound have won our Greystones Finest Eatery award. For the fifth year in a row. Which is very, very impressive.

We’re definitely spoilt for foodie choice around here, with restaurants and cafés aplenty, and they all have their revellers and believers, but there’s something of the tribal vibe about The Horse And Hound patrons.

And when Kevin and Claire need their support, bejiggers, they support.
