Hozier Hits The Sweet Spot

e’s a man who’s used to topping charts and selling out stadiums, but getting to no.1 in the US singles charts is still quite a big deal for Andrew Hozier Byrne.

With Too Sweet climbing up from no.2 to the top spot this week, the Newcastle lad becomes the first Irish artist to hit that sweet spot in 34 years, and the fourth overall.

After Sinead O’Connor, U2 and the criminally-under-adored Gilbert O’Sullivan.

Hozier did score his first ever US no.1 with his second album, Wasteland, Baby!, back in 2019, but there’s something about having America’s favourite song right now that every artist craves.

“It’s absolutely staggering,” says the man himself in a social media post, as he also addressed the fact that Too Sweet is also now no.1 in Australia, New Zealand and Canada, and is enjoying its second week at the top spot in Ireland and the UK, another first. “A huge, huge thank you to all the supporters, to all the fans, around the world.

“I’m taken massively by surprise by this… It means the world to me.”
