Robert Halpin, the Wicklow-born mariner celebrated for his pioneering work laying trans-Atlantic submarine telegraph cables in the late 19th Century. Accessed at its northern end from Sea Road, the property comprises a 0.56 acre site stretching along the coast and includes the Cable Hut, a ruined red-bricked building dating back to the period when Halpin laid a submarine cable between Newcastle and Nefyn, Wales in 1886.
Full planning permission for use of the Cable Hut as a home, with an extension, was granted in 1978. The planning permission was subsequently allowed to lapse.
