etting up at Stupid am every weekday morning to present Wicklow’s favourite wake-up call, despite having three young kids and a lazy husband, it’s clear that Laura Wood is not afraid of hard work.

Or, it would seem, a major challenge, given that Laura presents said breakfast show, Freshly Squeezed, with Rob ‘What Day Is This?’ Gormley.

Despite her happy family and a healthy career in TV, radio, online and print (plus, of course, regular event MC and voice-over work), Laura still managed to find enough fire in her belly to take on the actor’s life too. Having made her mark in previous productions with the Greystones Players, next month sees Ms Wood take on the lead role in Seán O’Casey’s iconic Juno And The Paycock, running at The Whale from December 6th to the 9th. And the woman is clearly loving it.

Having debuted at The Abbey Theatre on March 3rd, 1924, the middle play in O’Casey’s Dublin trilogy – between 1923’s Shadow Of A Gunman and 1926’s The Plough And The Stars – Juno And The Paycock centres on the dysfunctional Dublin tenement family, the Boyles, as the Irish Civil War starts rages outside, and hardship, humour and heartbreak rages inside.

So, you know, when it comes to taking on the lead role in such an iconic Irish play, no sweat, right…? We caught up with young Laura after Sunday morning’s rehearsal to find out more…
