These kids had waiting a long time for this day – 12 years, if you want to be exact – and the pent-up energy of that long, long wait was very much in evidence at the launch of Kilcoole’s Little Tern Park today.
The result of a humongous amount of good work, a truckload or two of goodwill, and just a smidgen of perseverance in the face of incompetence, but today, the mighty KAPS committee saw their long-held dream finally come to fruition.
It was the kind of happy occasion where, out of the blue, the local Thrift Shop donated a whopping great €5,000 for further work and maintenance on the playground.
Because, you know, that’s how those rockin’ ladies roll.
We needn’t go over, yet again, thelong and winding road to the Little Tern gates finally being opened, but we should give a shout-out to the many good people involved – the Doyle family, for donating the land, Jennifer O’Hara, Sarah Ni Dhonghaile, Aileen Quaid, Gemma Darby, Jill Kenny Finnerty, Nicola Devlin, Claudine Ryan and Marina Murray from the Kilcoole Recreational Area Play Space gang, and Cllr Tom Fortune for helping steer it through WCC.
The kids of today thank you, and so will their kids, and their kids. After that, the following generation of kids probably won’t hear about your work at all, but, hey…
